I lost an iron helmet with mending that way and ever since I added a lag chest that would hold the items for around 10 seconds so you could hop down beside the trash can and retrieve whatever you accidentally put in. I would later add a kill switch for the repeating circuit to stop the dropper in case of an emergency.

Hey, a Wooden Axe is a good emergency tool for if you’ve been taken out, high damage

Hey, a Wooden Farming Tool is just as good as any other one, it just has less durability that’s all so you may as well use up its durability

Minecraft Pro Tipp: Use the same construction that Steve uses in the end but change the cauldron with a Trapped Chest. Once you open it the Redstone signal deactivates the hopper under it and you can put in any item without risking to destroy it instantly. Once you double checked that only items you really wanted to destroy are in the chest close it and they will be all burned.

Make the lava in the side of the house and make sure you sorround it with cobblestone properly. I make it so that I can make a smithing corner.

The simplest way to make a functional trash can that I found is to put lava in a cauldron and place a trapdoor on it for safety. Won’t work in the earlier versions, unfortunately.
