This is a great play style for hanging out with friends and chatting it up or watching tiktoks. It’s definitely hit or miss though.

i feel like ppl who rat get their good gear from ratting, then they go to fight with it like the cool youtubers do. then they get dumpsterd repeatedly bc they spent their time ratting brainlessly isntead of learning the game. then its back to ratting with some copium that its fun to quote some cringe Sun Tzu thing about fairness. If ppl just put some time and effort into improving decisionmaking and learning from mistakes this wouldnt be an issue. But ppl are to afraid to learn the game bc they might loose some gear they are to shit to utilize.

I got ratted by a team of 4 scabs on hermitic door literally had grenades and all I talked shit and these rats couldn’t even talk back the whole fight which was like 5 min or so

So basically, Bad rat is the result of the game being punishing.

Good rat is the result of people wanting to have some fun whilst minising risk

And everyone else (from cheaters to gigachads) gives zero fucks to the risk they have since they can take the lose if they die.

So called rat here.
Now I can understand, that people like the more Call of Duty-ish approach to Tarkov, fast and hard action. But that isn’t for all of us.
I simply can’t play 4+ hours per day to grind the gear to compete, and even if I had the gear, I still lack the skill/reflexes/muscle memory, and I will lose most of the “fair” fights.

But for me ratting is not just ratting. Beeing a rat for me means doing somethin dirty, like exit camping, or cosplaying a scav with your pmc, just to kill playerscavs once they trust you.
For me, I don’t go ratting, I go hunting. Like a real hunter, I go to high traffic areas, cover myself, and wait for my prey. Preverably 50+ meters away with a Bolt Action, since those kills are the most satisfying. The anticipation of my prey, showing the patience to wait for the perfect opportunity, and the correct execution of the shot, is the biggest satisfaction I can have in this game. If I need more than one shoot, I consider it a failure, even if I get the kill with follow up shots. Its more like “Call of the Wild – The hunter” – Tarkov Edition, for those who know that hunting sim.

Also, as you mentioned, loot isn’t that important. A cheap Bolt Action, a backup Kedarr and a Tier 2 armor against scavs is all I need, and I get all that for less than a meta M4. Since most my prey died because they made predictable movements in an area without cover, I don’t even loot them all the time. Usually I use that juicy loot as a bait. It’s not about the money, it about sending a 7.62x54mmR fired from a century old garbage rod through someones skull before they even know that they are beeing watched.

I love to sit on a good spot with nice overview and snipe. Meanwhile i drink a beer and listen some interesting podcast. I do it all the time on shoreline or woods and i will never stop. That is my way to have fun in the game and i really enjoy it.

Also, you can get better dopamine hits from Hunt: Showdown, fr… In Tarkov it just feels like the bigger hit because you get used scraping the bottom of the barrel

See, this is what happens when a game is too prone to snowballing. Like, good PvPers will get, through a wipe, more and more advantages over casual, new or bad players. Now, fair enough, they earned their place, but in an average gunfight with similar skill, the meta no life player will win over the casual one.

So, what do you do, when you can’t compete in a gunfight? You stack the deck in your favor. Why? Because that’s the only way you can keep on playing

Literally yesterday I had to exterminate a rat (not well trained rat as it was prone to making gun sounds), which also had an audacity to report me!

On a side note: a lot of the time I also turn into a rat, like for example I kill some people at fortress on Customs and I’m in a process of looting and hear something coming… I’m not gonna give it up easily
