Franchising definitely doesn’t benefit the viewers, fans or even the wider base of players. OG TI8+9 doesn’t happen under franchising model. Even
Renegades/100T CSGO major final doesn’t happen in a franchise model. Smaller regions don’t get a go in franchising. In the long run, even the developer also takes an L in franchising if the LCS is any indication. A step back from franchising might be what is needed (but also unlikely to happen lol)
not when you lose the best team in your games history
Saw the title and just came to say that franchising is really bad for any esport. People like to hate on Call of Duty’s community (for good reasons but beside the point) but the esports of that game was what I’m sure a lot of us grew up watching. Franchising creates “development teams” rather than actual competition between pros that we have seen for years vs. guys making a name for themselves.
It’s already like ESL Pro League in CSGO. Partner teams plus team that had high place in ESL Conference, in Val It’s gonna be the Ascension
No
I feel like the stakes are a lot higher in franchising just my take
franchising is really boring, and thus far, has only damaged the scene, optic and loud gone is just sad…
It’s by the literal definition of the word not franchising since the teams don’t own anything, It’s a partnership league.
nope
for the people talking about csgo as an example of how not franchising looks, im sorry to burst your bubble but there is some franchising going on there as well. I cant remember what the agreement is called but all of the popular orgs are all tied together in an agreement that makes sure they will all get to play at all esl (i think) tournaments. Which is more or less franchising, yes its a bit more free form but its still far away from being completely open.
Franchising sux. Dont Like the “staged” pros
I think all you have to do is look at Forze and Gamer Legion locking out Astralis and G2 respectively from the Rio major this week to see why the small teams getting a chance to punch up is good for the viewers and the players not on those massive franchise worthy teams
Releasing this video and not once mentioning ascension is so crazy lol, just ignoring that it exists has people in the comments acting like only 30 teams can play valorant now
I mean it would have been shocking if TSM didn’t get a spot in valorant prior to the andy reginald thing. If they held an emergency meeting to kick G2 out of franchising because of Carlos then what more Regi and his scandal of abusing players.
I think this is a good move for Valo. Riot knows they dont have a loyal and time proven fan to fund tournaments through battlepasses. This franchising theme is good for future longeavity. A safe bet to build up for survival of a new game.
i want to see more underdog/unknown org beating the sht out of some known team in the scene
is not north america is americas.
I hope optic makes it through ascension
Dying game LUL
There are pros and cons with franchising. Franchising helps stabilize Valorant esports and helps gain interest of the general public, but it also makes getting into Tier 1 more luck-based instead of just being able to win a bunch of tournaments with a team you’re comfortable with and there will be fewer underdog stories.
