I felt this was coming with the general nerf of ability cost in general, as not all utilities are created equal. Then I feared this meta again when it seemed like Chamber was replacing Astra and Jett as the new must have agent. I wouldn’t mind comps like this if teams really played to their strengths but it feels like they’re forcing themselves to forego a duelist cause meta and games just honestly feel way more monotonous. Teams that were once waiting all round for their one duelist to break them in a site is no longer present so teams are moving in more slowly and playing even safer as they now lack a space maker and everyones utility is too valuable to lose. And tbh I feel like any game where an entire role can be ignored is by no means a good thing, It’s even more frustrating because it feels like teams are trying to shove themselves in to these preset roles then playing to their strengths , like say tenz maining chamber now instead of say Dapr.
I can’t say if it’s an initiator class issue persay that makes duelists feel irrelevant. As recently, Forsaken and Boostio should Yoru and Phoenix to be viable options still at pro level but there are definitely identity issues among the roster at this point.
Let’s get Real. Kayo is basically an entry fragger. Pop flashes that are hard to see, grenade, and a silence to nullify enemy duelists.

Buff other sentinels basically. Wtf is a duelist gonna do against Chamber, they dash, flash, etc, and Chamber just TP away. You might as well have another initiator who will have tools that come back up to gain space again. Duelist need kills to keep using abilities, initiator abilities come up after time. Sova arrow, fade eyeball, kayo knife, skye flash, they come back up.
Additionally duelist are hard to play. Jett has low skill floor, hold an angle and just dash out similar to Chamber. But the pro jets who can successfully dash in fully mobile, and get head shot with knives are very skilled. But why do that when I can just Chamber TP peak with my free OP and guardian? Chamber is easier to execute. Same with Raze satchel jump, Raze is still good for nade tho.
Then yes powercreep, we already see Fade power creep Sova because they nerfed Sova and brought in Fade just so she can change things up.
initiators are just too versatile atm
Thing is, is that each initiator kind of turns another agent into a duelist from info gather and making fights easier to even sustain with skyes heal. This is why I’ve always thought of raze as the best duelist, because even with a subpar ult, you will ALWAYS find value off her utility unlike the other duelists since she has info gather as well as a free corner clear with her boom bot and name respectively which is all topped off by her satchels that allow for those super fast entrys
It’s more because at the highest level, teamwork is the most important thing. Like in all games, selfish picks do not really shine in the highest levels of play.
Like initator are suppose to initate for their duelist so that duelist can entry more easily and that they are supporting the duelist, but now is more like intiator supporting another initator to entry
I see some comments about Initiators being overturned, but tbh I think the no duelist meta is possible only because of the strength of two agents: Kayo and Chamber. Chamber offers a great alternative to Jett for the Op role (specifically defence), and the KayO can near enough do the main job of a Phoenix. Thats why we see players like Asuna, until recently considered a duelist main, playing KayO.
Not sure what others think but I personally dont mind one agent class being weaker overall (ie Initators being the most commonly picked, Duelists the least). Id much rather have this than have one specific agent within a class be much stronger than the alternatives. At least rn we see ALL of the initiators getting healthy pick rates, which is much better state for the game than one where a single agent like Jett appears FAR FAR more than any other (which was once the case).
chamber is the only reason the no-duelist meta can exist
BBL against Guild ran no duelist on Bind and they scored 7 attacking rounds, nevertheless they lost (lol(
Reyna has a terrible blind that is basically used for info 99% of the time. Fade can shut off all of your audio, take away half of your health, gather info on pretty much an entire site with 2 cooldowns and nearsight if they get a hit, a literally uncounterable ability that glues you to the floor and shuts off your audio, and a site wide wall hack.
That’s just one example. Power creep in initiators is insane.
Valorant is a game where power creep is probably the biggest issue. This issue can possibly even kill the game.
4:42 to solve the steps problem with mollys bouncing of the steps you can just bounce in the wall so it has less momentum, i do this and almost never missed, but bc the choke point is so large it can leave a small gap to the attackers enter the site, so keep this in mind
Id count chamber as a duelist more than sentinel
It is and tbh riot should fix it because initiators we’re not suppose to overlap duelist like this.
Riot should simply make it so you need 1 player per role. The 5th role can be whatever the team chooses but there has to be
1 duelist
1 sentinel
1 initiator
1 controller

Predicted this would happen. Specially if youve played moba games. You’d know how ability base characters with good CC tend to be favored and change the meta. Its no different in valorant. They keep making characters that are too versatile with good CC. Mainly initiators and chamber (the rest of the sentinels are balanced imo). But i wouldnt say duelist are out tho cus raze and neon just cover distance really well. But I do prefer only 1 duelist than 2 cus an extra initiator CC is just good.
on haven, liquid had success with no duelist for a while a year ago, but it has the issue of it being predictable
Duelists will never die. They are the most fun agents to play
