こういうのは中立な人がまとめたものが一番良いとわかるな。
Vtuber好きだけど、こういったことがままあるから悲しいよ。
時系列にまとめてあってとてもわかりやすかったです
Since this video has been getting more foreign eyes I have decided to do this to allow overseas fans to understand the narrative that PDR-san is putting forward. (Disclaimer: my interpretation, his words are his words)
Edit: All edits are for correcting typo/clarifying subtle differences in meaning. The overall meaning will not change unless expressedly stated.
0:05 Explains ‘vtuber’ as a concept
0:38 Explains that in the vtubing space Nijisanji and Hololive are the 2 biggest corporations (throws some shade at Rushia)
1:00 NijisanjiEN was meant to ride the wave and put forward English-speaking talents. But there is a huge scandal as of now.
1:20 Dokibird became Niji EN Wave 2 Selen Tatsuki
1:34 Looking at the contrast in character design, it’s like she joined the dark side
1:48 Everything that the talent does and has (assets, accounts etc.,) is owned by Niji
1:57 They sell their soul for the brand that is Nijisanji
2:02 Selen had steady growth beyond 700k subs
2:10 Introducing the context around the ‘last cup of coffee’ cover and how it got privated
2:35 Reading out Selen’s tweet
2:50 PDR-san says that if he was in the same situation as her, he would probably have done the same thing
2:55 However, he clarifies that if you want to do well in a Japanese company, you should never do that
3:03 Mentioning that he can understand Selen’s feeling of having a cover which had a lot of time and money put in, along with contributions from the fans, made private in just a few hours after premiering.
3:15 From his experience, Japanese corporations are looking for people who do their job without any fuss and if you deviate from that things can escalate very quickly.
3:27 2 days later, Selen’s X account posts that she has been admitted to hospital from an accident.
3:41 4 days after that, Selen posted a gratitude post
3:45 Without hearing anything from Selen for 2 weeks, NijiEN’s official X account mentioned that she was no longer participating in anime impulse.
3:55 After that, Selen’s silence continues and #WhereIsSelen was born
4:05 Even after entering the month of Feb, there was no word from Selen until the 5th when suddenly her videos were taken down and her twitter account was privated.
4:14 Termination notice appears, PDR-san has read both.
4:22 Reads the post itself (not the notice) and mentions that if Niji had just stopped here, there is a likelihood it wouldn’t have become such a huge scandal.
4:50 Starts explaining the reason for Selen’s termination according to Niji EN. Briefly, she asked for permission on the 24th, was told to wait for perms on the 25th but posted without receiving perms from the higher-ups.
5:30 Jokes that he’s like Selen.
5:40 Explaining that from Niji’s point of view, they were going to set it to public anyway but because Selen mentioned that people could reupload it in her X post, they got angry.
5:55 Mentions that fans argue that LilyPichu has already given the rights to use the song but he doesn’t think that’s where Niji is saying the problem is.
6:08 Explains that it seems like it’s because they needed Selen to get approval from ever Liver in the video and she didn’t
6:24 Reads out the portion that says Selen was bad at communicating with external creators and made late payments.
6:37 Mentions artists that came out saying that it was Niji that was late in payments
6:57 Hedges the blame by saying that it was only one artist that did it [TL note: it wasn’t]
7:07 Points out the part in the Japanese termination notice that stated Selen had been engaging in “inappropriate behavior”
7:18 Reads Niji’s stated real reason for Selen’s termination [TL note: I just noticed but the Japanese notice actually *quotes* 「自身の状況等」which translates to “my circumstances”, and is actually a rather ambiguous term about what could have been encompassed in a public statement surrounding “a person’s circumstance”. To me, this lends credibility to commrrat]
7:56 Speculating that AnyColor probably thought “You broke the rules so why are you pushing the blame on me? Get terminated.” But that’s not all the dirt that Niji tried to pour on Selen.
8:06 Speculating that AnyColor probably thought that they were expressing how they had ample reasons to terminate Selen
8:25 but for the fans that were waiting a long time for Selen, it just sounded like Niji was saying, “It’s all her fault, not mine, I did nothing wrong, she’s bad, Selen bad.”
8:35 Mentions that a multi-million yen company should be doing this better
8:40 Mentions that by Niji first mentioning that Selen was engaging in “inappropriate behavior” it seemed like they were trying to direct hate at her. And then by mentioning “harassment by other livers” they were trying to turn Selen’s fans’ to hate the other talents.
9:05 This is a PR nightmare.
9:13 Doki returns to X and posts about her circumstances. The attempt and the bullying “from within”.
9:29 Doki’s post along with the earlier termination notice laid the groundwork for the biggest scandal in vtubing history. (at least overseas)
9:38 Creators and brand partners start pulling out and AnyColor’s stock price drops
9:50 Mentions that Selen only knew about the termination from Niji’s post
[contd.]
Thank you for making this video. I have noticed that some cultural differences were causing Japanese and overseas fans to view these events in different ways. It is good to understand the mindset and values of the overseas fans if Nijisanji wants to restore trust.
Thank you for compiling everything together in such an easy to understand way, us oversea fans really appreciate your time and effort. Good job PDRsan! o7
Overall pretty good summary. Maybe a little charitable to Niji (as I imagine he has to be more careful about statements against Japanese corporations due to local laws) compared to how the Westerners are portraying the situation.
Thank you for covering this very disgusting situation that has been haunting Dokibird ever since she left the company.
She doesn’t deserve this at all and could use all the support that you guys can give her.
Thank you!
Thank you for addressing this!
