I once needed to bring a gun into the range and the only place I could carry it was in my pocket because everything else was full (hands etc)
I cringed the entire 75ft with a unloaded gun loosely in my pocket

I use a clip on a bodyguard 380 with the safety on. I check the safety every time i put it in and take it out.

Actually, 99% of the time it’s because it was a STRIKER FIRE pistol. I’ve carried Mexican plenty with my Beretta’s, 40+ years and not ONCE ever worried about accidentally shooting myself. Fast draw and striker fire pistols are the problem nearly every time!!

I own a lot,of holsters; buying and trying holsters is almost like another hobby when you’re a gun owner. I will say I do have 1 pistol I don’t carry in a holster; it’s a small 22 WMR 5-shot revolver with a folding grip and pocket clip. This little pocket gun is single action and requires both unfolding the grip and then cocking the hammer before the pistol can be fired and it’s been a convenient last option and snake gun for years. I either carry a defensive loading or shot shoes for snakes and while I don’t like twisting the pistol with my life it is better than nothing. As a LEO I’ve carried a backup and as a life long scouter I’ve practiced preparedness and frankly the little folding 22 is nothing to carry and offers a worst case scenario last option.
Wear a holster or at a minimum invest in a trigger protector, either the keyed style that clip around the trigger housing, or the little plastic/rubber popper style that sticks in behind your trigger and must be popped out to pull the trigger. Regardless with how you carry practice-practice-practice both clearing and drawing your firearm and re-holstering or re-securing you’re pistol as if you do ever actually have to use it you’d be surprised at how many people never practice how to get it back to a safe position. I’ve actually seen a person draw from one of those bags that basically drop down your leg below your belt that was literally unable to get the gun back in without opening up his pants and taking his belt off; now this was after interrupting a robbery but believe me he was more freaked out about his gun after LEOs arrived and practically threw it across the room when told to drop it. When he started opening his pants and taking his belt off the decision was made to drop the mag an clear the gun to give it back unloaded as he frankly seemed like more of a threat to himself with that odd bag carry method. Whatever you choose stay safe and practice.

I had a customer that always put his little Ruger LCP in his pocket. When I asked him why,he said it was easier to get to. So while I was cleaning his gun for him,because it wouldn’t shoot. I told him it was from all the pocket lint in the gun!!!! Luckily for him his pistol had a long,and heavy trigger pull. I convinced him to get a pocket holster,and haven’t had to clean his pistol in 3 years. Maybe I should have kept my mouth shut! I’m kidding! He is a good customer,and hope he never shoots his junk,or his dog!

Now hold on here.
Some people carry condition 2, some people carry condition 3.
I bet this idiot was carrying condition 1 and also didn’t have a holster.
I actually like to carry “cartel style” with it in my back, no holster because it’s very comfortable. However I do this condition 3 and that’s my choice. The average every day person walking the street does not need to carry condition 1, it will prevent shit like this.
