Is Parasocialism same as Gachikoi?
I think that parasocial relationships are a problem when that is the only form of relationship some people have. A person with no other relationships is gonna latch on on this one side interaction beacuse is better than non at all
I think I got lucky since I’m too old to see myself wanting to date any of the vtubers I watch. I just think they’re funny.
I loved the music reference at the end. Some punks fall over the edge. (Is this our version of cyberpsychosis?)
Bro the vox fans are crazy, I just stop and watch the asmr stream chat, and it’s crazy what goes on there
It’s just streamers with anime avatars. She ain’t your “wife” my G. Remember that! That’s the only advice I can give to these people!
What do you mean silly rabbit? I donate $600 to my favorite waifu. Where literally a married couple
Main takeaway I understand is… *simp responsibly*
Honestly, its very simple. Mind the rules and check your boundaries. Take a page from the vtubers themselves: if you’re mentally unwell, rest up and touch grass. The problem here is that there is no one else to blame but yourself when you fall into the abyss.
There’s a great term for this, “Erotomania”
Describes an obsession where someone believes that a person of fame or status is actually in love with them, in the past mostly observed in unstable or inexperienced female patients who believe that a man of high status is actually in love with them, but more broadly an obsession with a celebrity where someone mistakes that person’s gracious manner toward the public/fans as a personal connection , Vtubers who pursue the BFE/GFE thing quite literally create Erotomania purely by doing that, people this delusional tend to take the celebrity’s love for them as a foregone conclusion, the Bjork stalker was a famous example, his tapes are a fucked up watch but it shows how far this obsession can go, add in how this is often observed in socially isolated patients, both male and female, then consider the demographic of Vtubers and you have a ticking time bomb, I don’t doubt that GFE/BFE is profitable but its a huge fucking risk just due to sheer numbers
Got my Rushia nendoroid 2 days ago. Me happy.
When you force your imagination/delusion to someone else is scary.
Finally, someone who understands the complexity of parasocial relationships and its importance to the streaming industry.
You know the real haunting begins when the fnaf 2 music starts xD😅
Damn, I noticed “I Want To Stay At Your House” towards the end lol
>Hololives idol niche
Yagoo’s quietly crying in the corner somewhere.
As someone who cured from toxic parasocial relationship, I can say that the only one who can cure you, is YOURSELF.
realize that you are just nobody, cry about it, get a distance, doing something else, or anything!
it takes a time, like… really, i take a whole year to finally can feel that I finally let it go and doesn’t had attachment again to my idol back then.
and once you experienced it, you will know when you must put the line. Learn from ur experience, and never go back.
now I’m happy with my wife, Miyamoto Frederica. Thank you.
I guess parasocial relationship is one a good thing and a bad thing. but one things to do we, also to be aware of our self, not to digging to harassed other Vtuber because hanging around with male vtuber. You felt like you needed Vtuber harassing will do anything for you but make the community even worse!
Watching Rushia’s career nosedive from probably one of the worst streams and collabs she did in hololive to her fans self destructing and selling her merchandise in mass was probably the biggest wake-up call I’ve ever seen ion parasocial relationships. The months of unrelenting antis made me realize just how bad getting too deep into vtubing can do to a vtuber it also made me realize just how manipulative vtubers can be.She had to always walk on eggshells only for the whole thing to collapse like a house of cards because she’s just…awful with technology. What really got me was the aftermath though. Aside from Hololive ID and EN, Hololive JP talents…didn’t seem to care she was gone. Almost like an afterthought. You’d think 2 1/2 years would warrant even some sympathy but they just wanted to put it past them and move on.Even the gen video Senchou and the group sent, big sister Flare was…oddly done with the whole thing. Which makes me wonder if it was due to how Rushia was behind the scenes, how Rushia handles herself on stream or if it was due to her fans? I get the feeling, there’s a bit of all of the above in that.
. Sure, in a way, she kinda had it coming. Telling your chat that she was their girlfriend/wife while also playhing the yandere skit if they so much as watched another female vtuber while on the other hand, chasing a one sided relationship with Mafumafu (Ironic in a way); yeah, that didn’t end well; but at the end of the day, she’s still a person with her own desires that no amount of money we throw at her could satisfy. Sadly didn’t go well for her. I guess being too into the parasocial grind has a huge risk associated with it. May see the same thing happen to Vox should the time come, although, I get the feeling Vox would handle it much better.
I wonder if it’s different for those of us who came in the second wave, after the 2020 boom. Because we didn’t have the relationships with vtubers during that awful lockdowns.
Just a thought, I adore Mikochi, Koro-San, Luna-tan and Nenechi for making me laugh when I feel crummy. And helping me learn conversational Japanese 🙂
Very well laid out video man.
I definetely have a parasocial relationship with my favorite streamer, but i think it’s the good type like you depicted.
As long as you can seperate between real life and online, i think it’s great to have a ‘home on the internet’. Like it’s not just the Vtuber themselves, but also members of chat who interact and you just get so many fun inside jokes for both the streamer and the names popping up in the chatbox. It makes it feel like a much more engaging and comfortable place as opposed to just raw entertainment.
Genuinely believing that through these interactions you can become real friends with the streamer and/or members of their comunity is probably a quick way to go down the deep end, but even if you’re just strangers on the internet, some personal jokes and conversations in the comunity make it a far more enriching place imo.
Even though i know it’s not, that streamer’s comunity does feel like a group of friends to me with all the banter and personalised jokes and references and that makes me more eager to join the stream if i feel like it.
A bit of parasocialism makes the best Vtuber communities
