I’ve found that getting into Hololive through TV Tropes and a particular Aloe fangame helped keep me chained to reality, even as my consumption rate of their content increases.

Learning about it through a site that forbids using its main functions on real people (because life itself is not a show) and a game with an entirely-new world made just for it meant that I was able to see the talents as personae first and keep it that way. And my default response to any particularly drastic news, thanks to TV Tropes’ uphill battle against people troping reality (they’ve only just recently gotten around to a formal crackdown on VTubing pages because of some particularly stubborn actors) and some of the runaway effects caused by the game’s popularity, is seeing what new fires need to be put out that I can and should be putting out anyways as a user of sites like TVT (where I can just backspace anything that breaks their rules) before any real sense of direct anguish. It could just be a distraction, but it’s certainly better than spending too much time fretting over someone on the internet.

So much to unpack and think about here. Great stuff, melancholic rabbit head man~ 🙃
The topic of objectification is such a fascinating modern problem on its own. Especially internet famous people fall victim to that rather quickly, when they transition from being an actual human being into just the concept of one. When fans turn into a collective audience and start holding the person in question to different standards over night~ It’s pretty much the starting point for most VTubers, which makes everything just a tad worse. I’d highly recommend checking out Innuendo Studio’s old video “this is Phil Fish” on that matter, which is also definitely worth a watch~

I think the timeline of “Simp” is similar to the timeline of “Stan” or “Fujoshi” People tend to look at the origins of the word and think, “How could anyone call themself that? Its such an obviously negative word.” But they miss the fact that this word was used as an insult not only to the extreme cases but also to anyone who could be associated with those extreme cases, like fans of streamers or people who enjoy gay content. Because of that, fans minimize the effect of the insult by reappropriating it to describe themselves. “Stan,” “Simp,” and “Fujoshi” may have originally had negative connotations, but people who were unfairly dismissed using those words decided to claim the words as their own. That’s why I don’t think it makes sense to look at the original definitions and say “Well that *proves* they’re mentally unstable/horrible people/gross!” Or “They forgot what the word original meant!” They didnt forget anything, they took the word and made it their own.

This made me remeber one conversation i had with a teacher about people´s obsession, how it can make people create and commit to their jobs with encouragement and a positive view , however when your obsession is about something you cannot control, like being obsessed with someone else, it can ruin you. everybody needs an obsession to give themselves a mission to work towards, but you need to have control over it.

Remember people the sad unexposed,unbelieve truth is that these kind of people are actually one of our beloved talent biggest income source. Without them the talent may or may not be as famous/rich as they are now. So as bad parasocialism is, if one can take advantage of it then its all good (until its not like rushia lol)
