I think the point where I realized that I wasn’t that deep into vtubers is when I would try to send a superchat but didn’t really have anything to say to them and would just cancel it, which I found weird since all these other people would send these long heartfelt red superchats about how their favorite vtuber pulled them out of the darkest periods of their lives and I’d be there thinking “yikes”.
I loved this video as it’s a topic that needs to be discussed in any community . . . But ngl I got a bit distracted at the end when you started playing instrumental of “I really want to stay at your house” XD.
Thanks for these thoughtful videos, Depressed Nousagi. Your insights into the culture and the warnings and advice you give are always well reasoned, well supported, and well intentioned.
I am a small vtuber and I have already experienced some of my fans showing parasocialism with me. It started as heathly where some of them would wake up a bit early or stay up an hour late just to watch my streams. However, It has gotten so bad that I’ve had to block/ban as I could tell that one just wanted to date me him by wanting to play games or talk to him whenever I was not streaming. I know that every content creator will experience some unhealthy parasocial, but I was not expecting my first experience when I got 500 followers.
I love this channel! Always a nice dive into the overall state of vtubing, or a look at a liver that’s blowing up and how they got there. I’m honestly a huge fan of vtubers in general. I have a few favorites, but I still follow people from at least 4 different agencies and a few indies. Part of why I’m working towards becoming one myself. I know damn well I’m gonna suck at it, and probably have days where nobody is watching me, but I still want to give it a shot
after watching this video, I remembered Stan by eminem
The internet and social media as a tool and echo-chambers have contributed to extreme parasocial behaviors and doxxing, either for fans of vtubers or real people streamers; this is more disturbing in western 4chan pages and japanese org webpages, were antis promotes hate speech or obssesive fans leaks all vtuber’s past carreer, real face social media photos and even medical records.
Having a romantic attatchment to fictional characters or streamer is now a common thing due to escapism of traumatic/stressfull real life, and most people ignore or evade the fact that vtubers are human voice actors and content creators perfoming on stage. You, as a fan and audience, pay a ticket for the show, and can’t marry an actor, period. But with a new growing industry of atractive vtubers who whats to reach our wallets, parasocial problems never stops flowing. This is a consecuence of our society’s progress.
0:55 If that was about Kakashi’s death, with turned out to be temporary, then that hurts extra bad.
So which Naruto character do you think he killed himself for?
Didn‘t know depressed nousagi was a trash taste fan
How you avoid this whole thing: Marry Nene. All 1,000,000 of us husbands are totally ok with her polygamy
I like how depressed nosagi’s logo is in the deep end
I think it’s very important to get a grip of reality. Enjoy the show but don’t forget that these vtubers that we loved, they are not anime waifus or manga characters. They are not an object. There is a real person behind them. And that person maybe has families, friends and even love ones. They are human and have feelings just like the rest of us. So you need to treat them like you treat other people, with respect. As long you don’t forget that, I think you should be fine.
I didn’t know that

Vox is Rushia as confirmed by the GREAT Depressed Nousagi!
Depressed Nousagi is my wife
It’s like Eminem song…
Thank you this cured my schizophrenia
I think if the vtuber set the right distances with their viewers since her debut, the parasocialism can be avoided (for the most part). Just looks at HoloiD girls, one of them, Kobo, she set her standard during her first few days of streaming, so the gachikois couldn’t even made their appearance yet. Now, if someone even try to simp for kobo, chat would be like:

My thoughts, opinions, and speculations as a Kindred (Vox):
Whether the correct term actually is “menhera” in this case, I think Vox hints that he’s been like that even before joining Nijisanji, which is unfortunate because we don’t know what caused him to dive deep in depression. Then after joining Nijisanji, he broke out of that depression through his fans (even admitting several times that he’s happy to be alive /now/), and that’s why he was so attached to his fans as much some of his fans then were (and unfortunately some now who haven’t learned their lesson, but we try to ratio them as much as possible). After the BF ASMR incident, he was snapped in reality by fans that we’re not his everything, as just he’s not anyone’s therapist, and that we’re also not his therapy. Vox’s now taking steps to finally treat his mental problems with therapy and updating and enforcing his rules properly, which in itself it applaudable.
And his tweet at 8:50… yeah, more “seasoned” Kindred just dismissed that as drunk Vox (and honestly, sometimes we’re sick of it, but you can see some Kindred whose first language isn’t English in the comment trying to comment on this, but unable to see the joke/pick up on sarcasm, which itself is another problem) because he does Saturday streams where the premise is to get drunk while talking to vtubers in and outside Niji about whatever, and even he’s recognizing that drinking every week like that isn’t healthy, so he’s taking a break from it.
Great video! Like that you tackle more complicated issues involving vTubing and the community in general.
