whenever I’m stressed because of my overly dramatic social life (mentally unstable roommate and friends) I’ll watch my oshi and it helps me calm down, I think my relationship with vtubers is vey healthy so thank you for mentioning that.
Nice Cyberpunk BGM
I love Korone cause she is such a cinnamon roll
but i wont ever see her as my wife,i more see her as my favourite entertainer
Thankfully I’ve developed maturity towards being a fan or VTuber, having dwelve into the IRL para and facing the consequences, also being neckdeep into the Pro-Wrestling as well (which characters really the selling point)
Nou, why are you playing “that one edgerunners” song
Depressed Nousagi: “Normal professional streamer”
*Shows Pippin*
I totally agree!
Its a very lucrative way to get money from lonely people
Nousagi is slowly making a guidebook for Vtubers, I’m waiting for you to write your book about it, and no pressure…
Also, I think Vox’s fans, as well as other male Vtubers’ fans, shows and proves there are girl weebs, nerds, and otakus out there…
When it comes to parasocialism nobody beats the asians especially east asians.
My opinion is that vtubers actually thrive the best at parasocial system because they separated the person between avatar persona and person behind it. You are being friends, “dating”, “married” to the avatar and not the person behind it.
The irl person might be married, living together with her/his partner, had children or even grandchildren but play a persona of young 17 years old.
Unfortunately, many people missed out on this and like you said, even objectifying the talents.
It is also true that sometimes talents will speak out about their irl persona but usually it is under membership stream. Even if it happened, never trust the story 100%.

Kumail Nanjani is that you?
It’s kinda funny that I’ve just saw a video about socialism and then this video parasocialism pop up
Toxic parasocial relationships cost too much.
Will be editing this comment when I simp
“Excess of everything is bad”– as someone who has been active in idol, stage, and seiyuu fandom for 14 years, I’ve seen the worst case of parasocial fans getting too derailed to the point of them putting themselves and their oshis into danger. I have seen many people’s careers get ruined because of it. I can safely say that the parasocial thing is not exclusive to Vtubers/streamers. Ngl, witnessing the extreme parasocialism from my previous fandoms, always keeps me in check for myself. I watch my fave Vtubers often, send superchats, draw fan art to show my support. I learned Japanese to be able to chat on my fave’s stream, and fixed my sleeping schedule because my fave is working so hard to fix theirs. Despite all these, I’ve never thought of them as a friend/lover. I never dare to cross the line I have set for myself. I also have a rule, I make sure to never rely on my faves for emotional support regardless of how much I like them (I never send super chats when I am emotionally unstable) because from what I’ve seen, people fall out of control because of it. When they are completely vulnerable, and a Vtuber lends them a hand/ give them attention. Ofc there’s nothing wrong w/ giving people encouragement but some take that as their everything. They begin to seek that comfort and attention and before they know it, they have become too dependent. They start neglecting their irl relationships, attack other fans or even their faves, derailing their own mental health. I’ve seen both the good and bad side of it so it kinda irks me when I hear people talk about it as if it’s automatically problematic. It only becomes problematic when you get into it way too much, when people don’t know when to step back, and when people forget that them and the Vtuber have lives outside the virtual world.
“Haha i like this cartoon lady, i will support her” 😎
Isn’t a healthy parasocial relationship just called a “Relationship”?
I think it’s more to people than the celebrity
To me, Vtubers are characters and the streamers are their voice actors. The characters may be loosely or very closely be based off them, but they’re their own characters still. All the shipping and all the rp stuff that many vtubers engage in is just them fueling their character’s lives. Looking at it this way kinda helps separate them from the very real people doing their jobs and makes the parasocial aspect more fantasy than projecting onto a living breathing person. I can’t claim to know Johnny Depp just because I’ve seen pirates of the caribbean, same logic applies here. I may like Vox Akuma the 4000 year old demon man, but I know nothing about the bloke behind the screen and I’m okay with that.
Don’t forget to take your gws pills daily, guys.
