Kizuna AI may not officially be an idol, but she definitely acts like one, so the whole idol thing started long before Hololive.
Thank you! People misrepresenting parasocialism is so obnoxious.
If I may ask so, it’s not technically the celebrity’s fault correct? I just want to understand more!
Dang peeps be deep diving so hard they forgot they’re surface dwellers
L weeb issue 😎
parasocial relationships can be good and even healthy. its just that like with many things, there’s a certain line you don’t cross. just keep reminding yourself that at the end of the day the feelings you’ve developed towards that certain vtuber are totally one-sided, and you’ll be fine.. -I know I do-
*Nousagi open Cyberpunk:Edgerunner song at the end*
me:sh*t!!
The only Parasocialism relationship that I aware of involving myself it’s with Technoblade. What a great guy.
I honestly think it depends on the person. While it goes both ways, it’s up to the viewer and the streamer both to be kept in check with reality. To me streamers are a comfort, they make me feel better when times are rough and motivate me to do better in my life and honestly, I truly wish the same and nothing but happiness for them as well!
What chat/viewers need to understand is that while you can have an emotional attachment to someone when that starts to influence your life to the point that it’s self-destructive, you need to get help and stop. For the streamer, it’s also the same and even more so because they live off of the people that support them. I respect Vox so much for being open with mental illnesses and parasocial relationships, he has helped a lot of people by just being real and it’s also relieving to know that (most) kindred are grounded and know not to cross that fine line.♡
I heard the music…
Ngl, the word is a bit of a political bait.
Good thing about being a nousagi is you don’t have to worry about parasocialism. We pride ourselves at not being able to lewd pekora and love pekora romantically, the closest love we give her is just a sibling love. After all, bullying and teasing your younger sister is the elder sibling’s job
Yeah im not sure I’m totally on board with the adoption of the term simp as a badge of honor.
I understand it happened because the word got overused and kind of lost its meaning but it’s still irresponsible and unhealthy to develop that sort of attachment where you’re sending too much of your money to a streamer.
Friendly Reminder That Rushia Is Getting Her Cheeks Clapped👏 Right Now 😎
When I watch about what happen to Rushia drama, some fans don’t really understand that she is a vtuber she doesn’t exist
Parasocialism is a symptom of a grater problem people need relationships like that when it becomes too hard to find real relationships
I think that, in general, the “intensity” of parasocialism in a vtuber has something to do with how “in character” the vtuber is. Parasocialism is a spectrum, but I think of characterization as a spectrum as well where one end contains those who do not characterize ( or exaggerate features of) themselves (typically seen in English branches, from my experience) while the other end contains those who deeply characterize themselves, often to the point of not acting similar to their true selves/portraying themselves as what the character is (often seen in parts of Asian branches, from my experience). I’m not saying that one side or the other is better or worse as an experience, but I think that those who are on either extreme of this characterization spectrum are more exposed to the extreme end of parasocialism than those who try to balance their characterization.
One hesitant reason I don’t watch VTube content is the nature of the connection. Once upon a time on YouTube you were wither completely there with your audience in face and flesh or you’re anonymous. When having a live streamer, you can see the other human on the end. It’S easier to acknowledge their humanity even when wearing a mask (though I don’t deny that male and female streamers can still have toxic para social fans). On the other end there are people like animators who despite conveying their story through an OC of their own, because of the cartoonish look it is easy to separate John the animated cartoon character and “John” (name might be different for anonymity) the human behind the voice and stories. I similarly don’t deny their own crowds of toxic para social fans (Like the wierd stuff going on between James and Jaiden shippers. Wierd.) With VTubers however, I think there is a greater susceptibility. They cannot grant us the distancing of an obviously cartoony character yet cannot grant us proper human presence of those who actually reveal their faces on stream. Therefore it is “easy to objectify them” (as mentioned in the video) because you’re blurring the line between the fake model and the human behind it who is doing the exact same movements. We’re already viewing these people’s lives behind a screen, why do they adopt a form of communication that puts yet another extra layer beyond that while simultaneously making audiences feel closer than ever when they’re not. Privately, having a model you can assimilate and move because you like that character is harmless. But when used on YouTube, you are now messing with the minds of thousands if not millions of people’s minds. It’s no longer your innocent hobby. You are now in the realm of capitalism and morality. And quite frankly, these VTubers have no sense of liability for their actions. Not that they should nessecarily be morally obliged to halt on the count of a few b ad apples, but something I cannot articulate feels off about this whole movement, though I continue to increase exposure so maybe I will gain a more wholistic view of the VTubers. Some are cringe, some are really cool.
I feel bad for rushia and her fans who probably needed help when we least expected it but then again she was going against her friends and hololive so I just hope she’s doing better for now on
head pats to nousagi and handraise* am curious how you made bunny thingy?
