I kinda lost interested in Vox after he took parasocialism a little too far.
when someone donate large sum of money for Amouranth, Pokimane and etc, they’ll be looked down upon and called simp.
when someone donate large sum of money for Kaela, Mumei, Okayu or the others, they’ll be called gigachad…
2:46 I liked how Mysta handled that situation and the fact that people went after him for that was unfair to him
Parasocialism is a prime example of EVERYTHING that’s wrong with the internet.
this is why I just joke around at comment and more focus at my own entertainment.
be like millie, she branch out of the parasocial trend and made a cult.
Sorry guys, Gawr Gura is my wife I donated $5k and she recognized me!
Jokes aside, Vtubers are cool but it’s sad how obsessive and addicted these people are, I never get that mindset. I’m a fan with stuff but I’m not that down bad.
I don’t actually think parasocialism is worse in Asia. I think it has more to do with language and cultural similarities. Someone from the west who only knows English is less likely to expect they could get in a relationship with somebody from the east who doesn’t know English. There’s a barrier there. The less barriers there are in a parasocial relationship, the more volatile it is.
POCHITAaaaa!!!
I just saw the part about how fuckable Suisei is and was like “yeah I like a crazy bitch.”
Aint even remotely engrained in anything shes done streamwise.
Now, this video should be recommend to anyone who want to join a famous vtuber agency…
Cuz, you will get a shit ton of attention from all sorts of people. The wannabe unicorns, wannabe bicorns, wannabe husbands, wannabe bf/gf, wannabe friends/families, antis, etc.
You should really prepare your mentality and don’t forget to turn off sns notifications when streaming.
As you mentioned in the video, parasocialism is an individualistic thing. For me personally, I see vtubers as anime anti-depressants. Something that can brighten a dark time in someones life. I see their avatars as a dis-joint of reality, enabling the viewers to see there is a disconnect & therefore be less prone to the severe end of the parasocialism scale.
However, certain indiviuals can become too attached & take it too far. Maybe it could have been that rush of endorphins when vtuber replied to the chat they made or that, as a weeb, they have no fall back position to have conversation with a friend who can tell them they are taking it too far. Or maybe they are just reaching out to something, rather than have nothing. I suppose that’s for the psychiatrists to mull over I guess.
Yes, I akasupa occasionally to my oshi & yes I expect something back… a smile is good enough for me though because parasocially, I get to smile too. 😉
Oh not you playing I really want to stay at your house background noise at the end of the video 😢
You are a fool to not think Corporations aren’t a major part of the blame. All they did are mainly silencing those who need help, just sweep them under a rug and blaming their parents, their education, their society… It’s sickening
Leave it to Nousagi to not be afraid to discuss the more touchy subjects of the vtubing world as well as deliver me my health dose of copium. (He just like me, fr.)
Nousagi better be careful, if he keeps spilling truth like he is I may start catching feelings. (He just like me, fr.)
i didn’t know parasocial relationships can be something as simple as just liking media. i guess i have a parasocial relationship with naruto? lol. the bad parasocialism is when you start to form an addiction with the media
Honestly, I initially thought that parasocialism with vtubers would be less likely than it is with live entertainers. While these vtubers do put some of their real personality and life experiences into the characters they play, at the end of the day they’re still playing a character. That’s part of the appeal of using a virtual avatar in the first place, and coming up with all this lore behind it. This differs based on the vtuber, but the assumption (from what I gathered anyway) was that they are being a different person, and that they are not supposed to show their true self completely (e.g., using words like “mom” or “dad” to describe their model artist instead of by their literal job title). While this may be something more enforced by vtubers backed my companies, I assumed this was a general trend among the vtuber community. By extension, this also means that they won’t get with fans because they are not 1-for-1 the character they play on screen, and because they aren’t supposed to disclose their real identity as part of the mystique of being a vtuber.
I will admit that the Rushia incident showed me otherwise though. I know that most of the blowback was from the Japanese side, but still. I didn’t realize how prominent this kind of thing was in the vtuber community.
I love Watame, she’s cute, she’s funny, her music really speaks to me, did I mention she’s cute. She has a really endearing charm that you end up just wanting to root for her. Even so in spite of, or maybe because of my intense attachment to her, I ultimately just want her to be happy, whatever that means.
