One main thing about vtubers i simp for is that they read superchats live on stream and makes me want to drop more money on them… Yeah parasocial relationships is one thing i get into specific vtubers for (but i try to take my meds tho!)

imo, Giving a light side for parasocialism atm wouldn’t make it good, and giving more reason to them to play victim. And it’s better for you take it more seriously with some more scientific data, because for me this is not some sort of living style, it is a disease, a bad habit

great video!! ive never seen anyone actually talk about parasocialism being heralded as a good thing, since its such a demonised concept and word. this does make me wonder though is there a reason *why* its mostly asian fans on vtubers that get more parasocial ? like its not like the west isnt capable of it, just look at kpop and dsmp fans. but when it comes to vtubers ive noticed that every batshit insane fan is almost always from the eastern fans.

Finally, a “Parasocial video” that weighs in both sides. This might be my favorite video from you. There is also something I noticed about people who are anti-parasocial relationships, they shame people who like the dynamic. It’s okay not to like it but at the same time, you don’t need to destroy an existing culture or shame the talent that cultivates that kind of fanbase just to look good on Twitter or Reddit. Like for real man mind your own business!

I used to be on dangerous parasocial line. I got bonked by her community so much so that I stepped back too far.

Nowadays I barely watch vtubers but if I do, its defintely bcoz they are playing my fav games that people rarely play, decreasing the chance of me watching them.

The “its just their job” factor kinna turned me off as well, its not that its wrong(cant blame them anyways), but that just increase the artificial feel to them. Most of the time I just see them as that “friend” who forces themselves to be friend with me bcoz of their ulterior motives. Guess having ulterior motive is part of our life, but I can’t help myself but to turn off of that concept specifically the content x streamer thing.

I said I stepped back too far, but maybe Im kinna wrong coz if there is something that entertain me about vtubers, its the drama at this point. A guilty pleasure for me.

So, on this scenario, did the bonk benefited everyone? Coz I hope it does. I feel a lot lonely ever since the bonk therapy and reality intake. I know this comment can be counter-argue easily but I’ll be happy if you guys make it in a way that would convince me to go back liking the vtubers like I used to before…

A good healthy reminder that vtubers are people behind the avatar, they have their own lives, and if you think the idol/vtuber/content creator(s) owes you specifically, it is just wrong since idols/vtubers/content creator(s) entertains everyone, you included.

I can *never* understand how people even get *that* deep into parasocialism. I mean, I can understand becoming familiar with your favorite content creator through watching them and interacting with them as “chat” *but* to actually believe that you’re in a relationship with them for like fr fr is just beyond me
