I really appreciated Red’s rant about communities centred around criticism. I know it’s outside the OSP Wheel house but I’d definitely appreciate a video that fleshes out that conversation.

I dunno if Wally will ever see this comment, but because of Finbar, I have decided to have my current D&D character learn how to cook.
It might be important to note, however, that this character’s main sidehustle when he’s not adventuring currently is to be a professional burglar and poisoner. 😉

At about the 1 hour mark, Indigo has a whole diatribe about the cracks in the MCU, and I REALLY respect all the points she’s making! I’ve heard lots of MCU criticism, which has basically all come from the “I have audience fatigue” angle, which IS valid, but is so narrow that I get tired of hearing it.

But Indigo, with her movie making background knowledge! Is able to take a wide-angle view, talking about overall structure and the plot-goals and ret-cons, exemplified by the back-and-forth on the Spiderman origin, the inevitability of human actors aging and wanting out of contracts. (Someday we will have scary-convincing deepfakes, including the voices. That’ll kick off another round of pursuit-of-realism, which will eventually fade, and then someone will invent “crazy visuals” again, and here we are back at animated movies again. :P)

I especially appreciate the point about how MCU movies take so many screens in cineplexes. Screen time is a limited resource, so smaller movie companies don’t get to make a splash with something new and creative that audiences may legit want to see! That’s perhaps the BEST critique I’ve heard.

And this comes from a place of me very much liking the current MCU phase, where they’re branching out into multi-verses! I have yet to SEE “everything everywhere” but I think I’ll love it for the same reason – I love large, sprawling universes that make just faint references to previous entries (Persona, SMT, the FF7 Remake), and I don’t find the plot-holes that these wink-and-nudge references make to be… a problem, personally! That’s where the spackle of fan-content can be applied!

PS, my hot take about Ragnarok – It was THE BEST Thor movie, BECAUSE… Thor knew Loki was alive at the end of it. (He WAS alive at the end of the other two, but Thor thought otherwise.)

When I saw the trailer for Stray some months back I was worried that it might not find an audience. What was I thinking? It’s a game where you play a cat knocking over stuff. Of course it’s gonna be a hit. I’m so glad it’s all over the place now.

fun thing i learned if anyone knows monster hunter rise all the cat noises that are made by the palicos in the game are actually the sounds of the developers cats they recorded during the Covid lockdown. fun weird cat fact there
