The piano player fucked up the true essence of this tune. The bass player was playing against the piano. Was off setting! Love Roy’s playing regardless. The other version with the dread on piano was way more true to form and very hip!

For everyone commenting negatively about Sullivan Fortner,’s performance, stfu, you don’t know anything. But something I did notice was he doesn’t have a real piano bench. Maybe the venue forgot to bring one and he had to use that chair, which appears to be too low, and is possibly compromising his technique. Been in that situation before.

Not as good as other recordings, it just seemed sloppy and not very well done. Usually, I try to transcribe what I can when learning a new tune, but I really wouldn’t bother trying to transcribe a little bit of this unless I have time on my hands. Good music, but I don’t particularly enjoy it. It just didn’t feel good to me.
