Eh the game probably isn’t worth buying but I’m a sucker for cats lol
It was available in my country for 9$ equivalent.
Loved the game
Would buy again
Always been fan of your reviews Luke buuuuuut dude this is gonna be one of the most disliked video in your channel 😂
I love your take on video games and how you dig deep to point in them but still… Don’t buy stray? Come on don’t say that to a game that’s loved by everyone and you’re also looking elements this game that no one is looking for that I even felt that this isn’t the Luke i used to know 🥴
imagine being this wrong.
That’s like those idiots who get the game on steam, just to beat it as fast as possible and refund it.
Imagine not wanting to give support to actually good devs that are passionate for what they do
Free trial is only for the UK btw
I wish people would stop saying that it’s “free” through a subscription. You’re paying for the subscription, so it’s not free. I get that they mean “no extra cost”, but I wish they would say that instead of “free”.
I usually really like Stephens thoughts on topics like this, but this is also why I love youtube comments. Games are worth our money if we get something from it. Length does not matter. ‘Dear Esther’ was a game that really left an imprint on me for awhile. It was short and hardly considered a game by some people, but I paid for it none the less and didn’t regret the purchase because of the experience it gave me. It is obvious to me when a company is greedy and when it isn’t, but whether or not a game deserves the price tag it has or does not, is up to the person purchasing it. Every gamer is different and a lot of gamers are tired of clearing out 30 watch towers. We’d much rather walk along a beach all poetic like or be a cat for 5 hours.
I find it weird to use Stray for this argument. It doesn’t seem to be related to the game itself, seems a bit of a clickbait video.
Yup, you nailed it. It shame that this game did so well and got positive scores, also shame that people bash you for criticism. It almost isnt a game at all. Its some kind of interactive world with bits of gameplay.
I even cant say that its on a level of Heavy Rain or that other types of game which are kind of interactive movies.
I guess game doesn’t offend anyone so lets praise it.
He is wrong
It’s really interesting how two of my favourite YouTubers for reviewing games (Luke Stephens & Skill Up) both respect the game and had varying degrees of fun with it; but sit on complete different sides when recommending it or not.
Both review vids are great and break the game down in lots of detail. I probably won’t get it because it’s not really my sort of game. But I can appreciate how it will probably provide a good 4-5 hours of chilled out fun in a great looking world.
Worth $30? I personally think it is.
EDIT: seeing such a strong “support the devs” sentiment in the comments is great. So much so that I’m gonna buy this game as well, if only to support a small company that I want to see create more stuff.
You’ve convinced me boys & girls
It’s absolutely worth playing imo. Idk if 30 is worth it, but definitely get it on sale or play through PS Plus
I didn’t think the game was that small
Who’s calling isn’t being a stray cat?
This might be one of the most intelligent comments sections I’ve ever seen on YouTube. I’ve read dozens of the comments, and they mainly disagree with Luke, but more importantly – most are giving good, measured reasons why they disagree.
It’s refreshing to see 👍
I just play cracked games. I never buy any game unless i want to play online
Disagree
I’m in the minority but i found the game to be a bit boring. The story was great and made me tear up in the end, but the gameplay lacked any sort of challenge, except the little guys, I wish jumping on stuff actually presented a danger where you could fall off.
But i get it, it is more like an experience than a video game.
That’s the reason right there! “A Game has to be long to be worth 30 or 50 or 70 Bucks.” And then we end up with abominations like AC: Valhalla. Uninspired, boring and ever repeating gameplay loops.
And what about a polished, beautiful, unique, relaxing short game? “Nah, don’t buy it.”
Thats death for creative and “out of the Box” thinking devs.
Journey, Abzû, Gris, Sayonara Wild Hearts, they’re not exactly Super Meat Boy, they’re chill, short games, earned tons of awards and nominations and their developers deserve to be paid for their work. Stray goes right in that category. Not everything needs to be an open world Soulsborne clone to deserve recognition… and your money.
