My biggest gripe with Stray is that the game takes a complete nosedive in quality past the first 30 or 40 minutes. The game after that is a generic, shallow fetch quest walking simulator with exposition dumped down your throat by way of text. The NPCs have no soul or character, and if they do they are never properly explored or developed. Take away the cat model and place a generic human model and you literally lose nothing. Its definitely an overrated game and while its not bad per se, its just… Meh.

Yeah, I disagree. This isnt a AAA production. Why are we bullying them with this video; recommending people dont “buy” the game. Developers. Need. To. Get. Paid. For. Good. Single. Player. Games. Especially when they are a smaller studio.

I will say this- the fact it’s “mindless” is why I loved it. I’m not gonna get into what Luke said about not needing to play it yourself to enjoy what it has to offer, but I know it felt like a breath of fresh air, particularly after getting the platinum trophy for Elden Ring, which began to feel like a slog on my last play through.

The developers worked hard (8 years) to deliver this game. They paid attention to all the details and the game is full of easter eggs. If you want to play the game, support the developers because this is a game made by a very small dev team who really love their job. If you don’t want to support the devs then don’t play the game. Don’t be a dick.

I was in the same position if I should spend on it. I decided not to and quite happy with that because I look for gameplay in a game and this seems to be devoid and any complex systems.
And it’s not like I don’t want to support Indie studios but IMO other games like The Ascent which was also 30$ that I bought on launch is worth more of my money

Dev makes a unique game that is enjoyed by most… Don’t buy it and support the devs? Wow way to shit on the devs. This is one of the problems with games these days less risk taking and unique experiences.

Fair enough saying there isn’t a lot of game length value and advising caution about that aspect but some games are great as just a unique experience and those devs should be rewarded for taking the chance and doing a good job.

Also you could argue regarding the simplified jumping as you are an agile cat you would tend to jump properly and smoothly rather than clunky and often missing your jumps.

For everyone here whining about Luke not caring for Indie developers. This is not about them being Indie or not.
This game is clearly good and will easily be worth 30$ for some people but anyone looking for some chunky gameplay, this is not even worth 10$.
I don’t want to be rude but seriously. Hollow Knight is a much much better game than this if you take gameplay into account which we should because we are talking about videogames and that is like less than 15$.

That’s the point, it’s a discussion of value for a certain category of gamers.

Indie game Devs already have a hard time being able to fund their games that they’re making in an industry that is trying to make Online PVP the main genre. Saying not to buy a game because you yourself do not believe it’s special, especially with a large audience, is incredibly harmful. Stray was a breath of fresh air; a game where the Devs actually put their passion and love into it. Their hard work and dedication deserves to be respected and rewarded and you do that by buying their game.

I mean we live in a world where people pay an extra 4usd+ to get there food delivery even if they are 300m away of the shops so I understand why they think 30usd is worth it
People dont have any notion of money anymore and I dispise them for it
