Stray had something I don’t see in very many games since Half-Life. It’s what I like to call, “the touch of valve”. It’s hard to explain but when you put THIS amount of detail into your linear games, it just immerses you so much more. Also, I feel like everyone is missing the point of the game while focusing on the cat. Cat + cyberpunk was nothing more then a hook. What they were going for was the perfect protagonist to act as a lens so the player can be immersed in the game. By focusing on the “cuteness” of the cat you’re completely disregarding the reason as to why you’re a cat as opposed to a human.
Literally, I have not played a game like this since half-life. Clearly, the game is short so the devs could make a detailed game within their budget, and dang was that a good 5 hours. I’d rather an amazing, breathtaking 5 hour game then a boring slog of a 50 hour game. Support the devs so Stray’s sequel can be leagues better. I will stand by my words: these devs are the next valve.
Everyone disagrees with you take a note. You don’t have to hate on everything in order to get views
I’m so not surprised you would have this take 🙄
i only disagree with it being mindless because for me that just was just not in the picture, however i loved this review
Gotta disagree man. I played it originally by streaming it for free as part of my PS Plus account and then bought a physical copy to support the developers, and because it is a game that I truly enjoy. For me it was a breath of fresh air, I found myself smiling so much during my playthrough. It’s simplistic yes, but in the best way possible, and I also don’t think it’s simplicity is an error I think it’s intentional. There are tons of games with endless button combinations and super complex mechanics but that would have taken away from the beauty of this particular game IMO. It’s beauty is its simplicity. The first time I knocked over a paint can and every robot reacted to it and one even perpetually cleans the spot from then on, my footprints that trail when I walk through the paint, when I found a snoozing robot I could actually take a nap on in Midtown. Listening to each new song as I found the sheet music and brought it back to the guitar playing robot. Sticking my head in the paper bag, and the trophy that pops is, “curiosity killed the cat,” there was a smile on my face so often, I fell in love with the world so easily. There are so many aspects of this game that are so well done and thought out, from the world itself to its characters, as simple as they are, the hearts that pop up on a robots facial screen when you rub against them, there’s a huge attention to detail throughout. I don’t think this game is for everyone, but for the people who love it, the story is the replay value, not in a new game plus sort of way but to simply experience the kind of joy you don’t often find which this game figured out so well. I will definitely play this again down the line.
Disagree with you in this one.
Actually the sentiles react to sound. When you meow or kick down some stuff such as cans or something they will go look at the spot.
Insert the Office meme – *You know what? im going to start paying for it even harder*
This was a dangerous and shameful mindset to spread being an influencer in the gamer community
What a preposterous suggestion, i have the PSplus and even so payed for a copy of the game to support. Now a thing i wouldn’t spend a cent on is AC Valhalla, Doesn’t have 1% of the Heart Stray has, i downloaded and forced myself to try it, uninstalled the day after. SUPPORT THE DEVELOPERS WHO ACTUALLY MAKE GAMES WITH A SOUL
In the philippines the game is 680php which is roughly 12-13 bucks idk abt that
Don’t buy this game you said you loved, but we should engage in your paid sponsorship. Nice 2k likes to 1.5k dislikes ratio though.
I am genuinely fucking astonished you put this video out and flagrantly just slapped the team of people who worked on this in the face. You’ve had bad takes before, but holy fuck Luke. It’s one thing to say “You shouldn’t buy this, here’s my criticisms and why I don’t think it’s worth your money.” I am perfectly fine with you saying that, even if I think it’s a weird thing to put in your title (The original title of the video was ‘Stray: A Cute Game You Shouldn’t Pay For’), because it implies that you think the game isn’t worth a player’s time to buy or play, and even though I disagree, it’s perfectly fine to claim something is not worth someone’s time or money- until you added the little part where you told people they could use this little loophole to experience the entire game without sending a cent the developer’s way. Considering the fact that this is in the video, saying you shouldn’t pay for it is filthy. If you intend to play this whole ass game, shoot your cash the dev’s way. They worked hard on this. If you don’t think it’s worth thirty bucks- fine. Wait for a sale. Saying this kind of shit and peddling it is precisely what makes indie devs give up on producing the games of their dreams. Artistic vision is a beautiful thing, but investing it in something like making a game you want people to play is soul-crushing if nobody buys it. Callous and capitalist as it sounds this game was made to satisfy that urge to create as much as it was made to turn a profit- after all, it did cost money to make. You should look back on this and be absolutely appalled that you would ever say such a thing. Shame on you.
I’m playing it with my two daughters. We’re having a lot of fun together. Enjoying the game.
This is the nintendo affect. Nintendo sells you shit games for 60 dollars. Because after fucking 50 years they still think nowadays theres a problem with quality not being used as much as quantity. This game is if nintendo made cat gaem
I just hate cat. So no for me.
Stray is nothing I would buy. I only buy _good_ games that are RPG games.
So games like Journey, Little nightmares, Inside and other games that are on rails and arnt difficult are also off the purchase table? Shouldn’t fund studios that make a good well made FINISHED product? Man I watched to the end twice to get behind you like but I just can’t with that mentality, time and difficulty don’t equal a good game, nor should they be required to be funded.
good lord your content just keeps getting worse and worse. do you take pleasure in being contrary and adversarial just for the sake of it? sick of your shit, unsubbed.
Really? A game that’s made by an indie studio with a lot of love and care and you are actively saying don’t buy it? Rhetoric like this is one of the reasons why a lot of people despise game reviewers/analysts. The dev’s earned the right to be fully supported by the community and you using your platform to say not buy it seriously affects their livelihoods and hurts the indie community in the process.
Sorry, but as soon as I heard u insisting to not pay for the game, I had to run to the comments section and, guess what, everybody disagrees with u. Yeah, the game is short and easy, but considering how beautiful and heartwarming this game is, it would actually be a shame if it was longer. It is like a good movie. U enjoy it, but at the same time u r killing to know its ending. At least, that’s how I felt. Saying that ppl should only play it if it was for free is freaking disrespecful with the devs.
I absolutely loved this game. I was engaged in the visuals, storyline and atmosphere of the game. The gameplay isn’t anything special but everything else makes up for it and $30 dollars really isn’t much in this day and age. If there’s a game you shouldn’t feel bad paying for it’s this one.
