Such a bad take…
So developers don’t deserve to be paid for their game and instead you should use a trial to play the whole game and then cancel it.
You’re not a clown, you’re the whole circus.
Soma with a cat is, on paper, something I am on board with. 5 hours well spent
I don’t understand the price complaint for this game. $30 doesn’t seem that steep for a 5 hour experience. I paid full price at launch for Heavenly Sword and Mirrors Edge, and didn’t regret either of them. I think there is fun to be had in a short enjoyable experience. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve grown to appreciate shorter experiences since I am more likely to complete them while also maintaining a balance with my social life and work life.
If the devs stay true to gamers and make a good game, they should be rewarded for it. How? Sales. You video is hurtful for that small team of 20 people that made a game about an animal they love. And people love it too – better score on steam than God of War and more. You worse critique imo, especially the thumbnail. It hurts the devs the most.
Thats a bad take.
Support the developers and products you like. Vote with your wallet not with some useless opions online.
Not every game has to be 15-30 hours, some people dont have time and a 5 hour game is perfect for them.
Are there better games? Sure. But do you only need to play 10/10 games and nothing more? No.
For a indie game…
PEople should play EXO ONE.. its uhh, odd.. You control an alien probe, that manipulates gravity to travel.. Its pretty effing sweet. and really memorable, because the atmosphere is just really unique.. and its a cheaper indie game, free on XBOX gamepass an i think like 10 bucks or something on steam..
Luke my man you’re a great guy and ive enjoyed your videos for a while and you have some real gems under your belt, but i think you’re focusing a little too hard on taking the overly nit picky contriarian stand-point recently. Im all for people voicing their honest opinions especially if they go against the established grain, although the way you’ve been going about critique over the past while seems disingenuous and uninformed. But who cares as long as hate-clicks pay the bills right?
If you weren’t playing as a cat, I don’t think this game would get the hype it did and everybody would be saying pretty much the same thing that Luke is saying
Cute game though, I get why people like it but I get why people don’t. Chill games can be good
”you shouldn’t pay for”
right, because of how much time, effort, and work went into this game.
certainly not the kind of youtube i’d watch in the future.
It was a good game for me but I played it for free so that explains it.
This game is only 3 hours long if you speed through it, ignoring the npcs, and not soaking in the world at all. It took me about 9 and I only completed about 80% of the memories.
The Peggy’s are coming for you now.
vehemently disagree
Oh brother this guy…
I really don’t understand the “he’s being a contrarian “ comments. Luke is pointing out that Stray excels in worldbuilding, atmosphere, and story, but not so much in the gameplay or mechanics. As someone who has watched a Let’s Play of Stray, I’m inclined to agree with his stance. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience, especially through the commentary of a favourite YTber, but I didn’t feel compelled to play the game myself.
An example for comparison: whenever I watch my favourite creators play Stardew Valley or Trauma Center or the Yomawari titles, I instantly grab my 3DS or Switch and start playing these games. Seeing how the Let’s Play videos tackle something makes me want to try it myself. But with Stray, I’m perfectly content to vibe with someone else’s shared experience.
I do agree that these kinds of games are important and speak to different people; they need to be bought in order for more to be made. But I also agree with Luke that if you’re buying Stray for anything other than the pure experience of playing as a cat in a post-apocalyptic world, you might feel that it wasn’t worth the full-price. I saw a comment make a “going to the movies” is fine, so why can’t that apply here—well, I know plenty of people who feel their $15 was wasted going to a movie and they encourage people to wait until it’s free on a streaming site.
What a terrible take.
meanwhile, after getting it from ps+, i pre-ordered the physical copy, and bought it for my steam deck 😅
A lot of passion was put into this game and definitely it’s way cheaper than going out on a friday night, don’t see a problem buying it.
I kind of wonder if the game might have been better if you played B-12 and you had to save humanity but we’re restricted to relying on the cat
