One of those rare reviews that manages to say pretty much everything I was thinking while playing. It’s a walking simulator, but as a cat. I distinctly remember thinking “this is a watered down Journey.” Like there are some _really_ pretty sections and screenshots to look at, but playing it gave a mid 2010s-era demo vibe. Still, best not to speak up against the Big Kitty industry.

i don’t really think stray is *that* good for beginners/people who are shitty at video games such as myself. this game consists almost entirely of puzzles leading you from one room to the next, advance the dialogue boxes until you get to the next chapter, save the world. these puzzles are very easy, but they’re also incredibly repetitive because of how few movement options you actually have available to you. even a puzzle that takes 45 seconds to complete feels deeply annoying when you see every movement animation in that room three times to complete it.

It’s funny that the story is what you criticized the most, when that is what made me love it. Talking to everyone and finding the easter eggs to flesh out what became of humanity and the world was really engaging for me. I personally don’t think it would have benefitted from being more like inside or journey, 2 of my favorite games.

Somehow knowing that Dunkey didn’t fall for the novelty of being a cat in this game for his review is very telling just how easy it is for gamers, myself incuded, to fall for spectical and wonder rather than what the game has to offer. That’s all this game is really, a novelty that will quickly be set aside for more games, perhaps better ones in the genre that Dunkey compares to. I really enjoyed this review dunkey, glad to have watched it.

I would respect the game more if you were on a timer and could choose between altruism and hedonism. As noted in the review, cats would be prowling for food and sex and wouldn’t care if the world came to an end because that’s someone else’s damn problem. Surely a game this size should have two endings to increase replay value.
