These are fair points, but it’s actually a fun game, which is all that matters.

You’re just going to take a shot at Bubsy like that? A classic? An innovator? You yourself point of the flaws in the movements in this game while the actual intellectuals who worked on Bubsy 3D implemented the superior “tank control” movement system for their platformer knowing that time would prove it to be perfect. Pathetic review.

I had the “intended” experience without the weird glitches seen in this video, and I absolutely love cats, but I must admit the issues of the game kinda falling float when it comes to story. The world is interesting, but there isn’t really that much intrigue, mysteries are kinda uninteresting and the cat just being trusted like it’s another highly intelligent being is really making is hard to suspend the disbelief.

But still, cute cat game, 10/10.

I think the biggest problem with the game is that it just plays itself, it is very much like Inside and Limbo with a gimmick that isn’t fully fleshed out.
I mean the most cat thing you can do is knock stuff over.
Obviously this wouldn’t be as popular as it is without the “You can play as a cat”, well gimmick is what it is, and while it is a good game I don’t think it deserves as many overwhelmingly positive reviews as Portal 2 or Terraria.

Like imagine a game where you actually play as a cat, and not embody one. It would take a helluluvulalot of effort, but imagine something like Deus Cat, I would absolutely play that instead of ‘linear story game but cat and 4k grass’.

Atleast it has a bit more gameplay than Quantic Dreams’ games. (And Abzu is amazing, so go play that)

Logically I know Stray is not the greatest thing ever and it does have a lot of limitations. But I enjoyed the way the game made me feel and I got 7 or so hours of pure enjoyment and happiness out of it, so I don’t really mind its limitations personally. It’s not necessarily GOTY material by any means, but I think it’s a decent enough game that will satisfy its target audience (AKA people who like cats lol). Appreciate the honest and unbiased review, as always.

I do agree with dunkey in that i wished the story would’ve been more visual and subtle throughouts all the interactions, while the grandiose kojima-esque text is not done poorly, a more subtle story with the more mundane cat aspects accentuated would’ve fit better.

Before I watch this, can someone tell me if there are spoilers regarding the 2nd half/end of the story ?
Last time I watched a dunkey video without finishing the game (Elden Ring) I got spoiled on the last bosses etc cause he doesn’t put spoiler warnings.

It really does get you thinking when the criteria for someone is “The game has to be challenging or it isn’t good”. Like…. why?
There are people who come home from work exhausted and they can choose between relaxing in front of the TV or playing a videogame before bed time – why does it have to be a game that makes them angry?

Seeing people of all ages and all genders taking a game on and checking it out is something this Developer has accomplished which other Developers have dreamed about for years with pandering, and all it took was a fucking cat walking tightropes.

The game isn’t perfect, but it’s great to see that games are being made for the sole enjoyment of them. We have so many egoshooters and MOBAs at this point, Platformers with bastard difficulties, From Software games that are just there to stress you out and make you stink from sweat, and I’m all here and supportive for the idea that we stray away from this kind of concept for once and embrace simplicity on a little journey.

When a game gets all kinds of demographics interested in it, it’s clearly doing something right.

I don’t know if I’d go as far to say it’s better than Bubsy. Bubsy spoke for one this cat can’t speak. Bubsy can jump super high and glide this cat can’t. This cat doesn’t collect shirts. I’m buying Stray but if they could have just had the cat say “radical dude!” once or twice thatd be nice
