The game Is love this is for the games 8th anniversary
Year 1 player here there is a free 5 star for new players which is limited to the og or normal banner
I’ve been playing FGO for six years on NA (the Japan version is 2 year ahead of NA version) and this game has some of my favorite stories and characters in media. Personally, it’s very easy to get attached to most of the cast but the gacha rates to pull them are rough. 1% chance to get a 5 star servant and even then there’s a 20% chance of not getting them. The “pity” system is bad too. You have to do thirty 10-spins (which is 330 summons) to guarantee one copy of the banner 5 star, which does not carry over between banners. Gameplay-wise it’s a little simple but there’s definitely challenges and some strategy involved.
Dont recommend picking it up; arknights doesn’t hold a candle to how long the novel story is, and the lore is overwhelming.
To keep it simple, instead of a battle royale, FGO is a traditional RPG. In the first arc, we travel to breaks in history to repair tampering with the timeline and restore the future. In the second arc, you destroy parallel timelines with divergent histories encroaching on earth, with humanity all but wiped out by foreign invaders in 2019.
While I do recommend the game for the story alone, especially the second part, a lot of the first part(the good ones and most important ones) are animated into anime series
The Wikipedia description should be FGO is a Visual Novel with an RPG element. The stories are long LONG, but it’s the main selling point of the game
The gameplay isn’t the best of gacha games but it’s still a good chill turn-based game. Also, it’s a bit annoying as an end-game player because there’s no auto-farming so farming in this game is still manual work
if you only watch the 2006 Fate Stay Night, I recommend you to watch Fate/Zero and Fate/Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works followed up with Fate/Stay Night Heaven Feels first
especially if you like ANIMATION. These are previous works from Studio Ufotable which animate Demon Slayer
FGO is an extension based on FSN. You don’t need to read/watch it first, because they’re different multiverses (kinda). But preferably so because there are a lot of characters imported from it
FGO has some animes but the order goes like Chapter 1, skip to Chapter 6, Chapter 7, Chapter 8 (final arc 1), They are some of the best FGO chapters but it’s basically an animation fanservice for people who already play the game
There’s also the English version of the song
I would watch some of the FGO TVCMs and trailers, although have someone curate the playlist cause a lot of people tend to get repeats or even miss good trailers when they just grab a list at random.
The video represents Humanity, it’s folly and indomitable will. I especially love the part where it showed Iskandar in the same position as the beggar showed before, and Merlin looking at the atrocities of humankind
just going to drop this right here because fgo 6th anniversary you can chose a free five star and saber is one of them
I stand by the Fate/Stay Night VN – where it all started – as *the best* introduction to the Fate series, and one of the best (potentially even the best) experiences in Fate; it’s so good, and acts as a foundation for everything else in the series to build upon. But, admittedly, it is a very long novel. It’s totally worth it, as it’s an absolutely awesome visual novel, but not many are willing to commit to a 100-150-hour experience as their first bite of a universe they know little about, even given the option to binge or spread out that experience, or take breaks in-between routes. It’s a similar time dedication to a Persona game, but it’s entirely made up of story (plus a couple of menus explaining stats and backstory regarding character, weapon and ability/skill profiles, which I find really awesome; you unlock details on things as you learn about them in the novel. Also, there are menus containing CGs and music and a couple secrets and stuff. I may like the menus too much).
So, other than the games, I also recommend watching openings to the games and anime, as well as watching videos such as Gigguk’s Fate explanation / introduction videos for a little background. If you’d like to watch some anime first, Fate/Zero is a pretty good option too (though, according to the VN author, it’s basically a timeline *similar* to that of the ones the VN takes place in. So, “mostly canon”, I guess). FGO is great, but I find it’s early / new-player experience to be a bit on the slow side – it also, at least in the earlier chapters, uses a lot of characters you’re kinda supposed to know from other Fate media in order to reel you into the FGO-original, cooler stuff much later on.
But in the end, the best advice is to start wherever you like – if you do that, you’ll probably enjoy whatever you’re jumping into anyway, even if it’s one of the entries that doesn’t introduce you to stuff much. I know people who started with F/GO and loved it. *I also know someone who started with Fate/kaleid… Which, many would say is moderately concerning.*
You can always check the FGO animes:
1. Fate/Grand Order: First Order
2. Fate/Grand Order: Shinsei Entaku Ryouiki Camelot – Wandering; Agateram. [Part 1, Part 2]
3. Fate/Grand Order: Zettai Majuu Sensen Babylonia [Including episode 0]
4. Fate/Grand Order: Shuukyoku Tokuiten – Kani Jikan Shinden Solomon
5. Fate/Grand Order: Moonlight/Lostroom
There are a couple of media you could watch that covers certain chapters of Fate Grand Order.
The order to watch
Singularity F (First Order)
Camelot (Movie)
Babylonia (Anime Seies)
Temple of Solomon (Movie)
With Georgie checking out other gacha game related video…. I hope she’ll check out Reverse:1999…
As for the question in the description… it’s a tie between Abigail Williams and Katsushika Hokusai… honestly any of the Foreigner class I immediately add to my favorite list.
The geates franchise out there😊
5:20 She isn’t just from tge Arthurian legends she is Artoria (Arthur) Pendragon😅
As someone who play this game for almost 3 years, I’m not recommending it bc it takes so many times for farming and you can’t go with auto-farming. The gacha is brutal bc the servants and CE (like attribute card) summoning is mixed together in the banners. So it’s hard to get the character you want.
I joined in bc I’m such a fangirl for Mahabharata stories. Also I’m Arjuna aka the one with the bow and Ashwattaman’s (he’s not in this video) simp but at the end the gacha is brutal so I just content with Ashwattaman and no Arjuna and his alter at the moment 🤣.
The stories/chapters in the game are good except the first 3 chapters. The lostbelt chapters (also Solomon one) are the masterpieces and sometimes makes you cry and getting attached towards the servants who’s helping you fixing the abnormal history timelines (the main plot of fgo).
My favorite character from Fate/Grand Order features heavily in this music video; Hassan I’ Sabbah, also known as King Hassan, also known as The Old Man of The Mountain, also known as Gramps, also known as the skull knight looking guy.
Other Servants who featured heavily include Karna (white haired man with eyeliner and golden armor) and Arjuna (darker skinned man wearing all white) from the Indian mythology of the Mahabarata. Karna is the Demigod son of the Sun God Surya, and Arjuna is the Demigod son of the Storm God Indra.
There was also Fran, also known as Frankenstein’s Monster, seen with pink hair and a bridal gown. And Iskandar, also known as Alexander the Great, the redheaded bearded man who had a nude shot which I greatly appreciate. Featured as well was both Jeanne D’Arc/Joan of Arc (seen with a long blonde braid and plated silver armor over purple clothes) from France, and Jeanne Alter (seen with shorter hair and all black), a corrupted and chaotic version that resents both those who burned her and God. There was also Merlin (seen wearing white robes and with white fluffy hair), the court wizard of King Arthur.
There are LOTS of Servants featured in the music video and its still astounding how many Servants Fate manages to fit into its world as characters with personalities, though some are a little less fleshed out and a scant few have no personality whatsoever. As of April 2023, there are over 375 Servants in existence.
And Gramps is still my favorite because you can’t beat an old edgelord in badass skull armor.
And honestly, its a good idea not to play this game when you have a few gachas on your plate. I’m already playing like 4 different gachas including this one and Limbus Company and it is *suffering.*
this animation shows the true heart of Fate’s summoning system, the summoning and the resulting contract between past heroes and the living aren’t supposed to just be something for mutual benefit
it’s a bond made between the past and the present for the sake of the future
btw the games story gets almost as long as some of the longest books
and it’s the best adventure I’ve had in a game
If you remember enjoying Fate/stay night, then I do recommend watching Unlimited Blade Works and Heaven’s Feel if you find the time – they’re basically parts 2 and 3 of Fate/stay night, everything else is either a sequel, prequel or spin-off. You probably *don’t* need to rewatch Stay Night, UBW does a good job of explaining things (it was, after all, made 8 years after the first show).
Edit: on the FGO questions. The gacha rates are terrible. However, I personally think the story is, on the whole, excellently handled, and there are multiple free characters who are extremely good (and others who are great in specific niches) and make it 100% feasible to play the game without putting any money into it. If you’re the sort of person who has to get specific characters you like, probably steer clear, but if not then it’s a fun time.
Some people dislike the absence of an autobattle or autofarm function, but I’m not a fan of the AFK game thing, so that really doesn’t faze me.
I think the tvcm of fate grand order is something you will likely enjoy
Seeing someone who knows practically nothing about Fate enjoying the video so much brought a tear to my eye.
