I just got a cat about a week ago and it’s been awesome! I’ve always loved cats so to be able to have one after so long has been great.

Actually it is surprisingly easy to survive. Zurks don’t spread in the game. They cluster in and around areas with plentiful food, that food being largely inorganic. They don’t migrate in any capacity, and they hunt in packs. Their preferred method of attack is to lure prey deep into their territory where they have overwhelming numbers. Against large prey this works well, although is limited with smaller and agile prey.

Survival is somewhat trivial as well. Humans of the walled city, before dying out, developed plants that could grow to large sizes with little effort, and the bare minimum of water. Water being surprisingly plentiful in the game. This makes it relatively easy to get food and water and survive.

In terms of ensuring Zurks do no reach you, they are incapable of climbing. They move along the ground, occasionally leaping small heights, but usually just travel along the ground. This makes barricades largely successful at keeping them out. Since Zurks stick together and don’t travel beyond their territory in large numbers, a single Zurk is highly unlikely to break through, let alone pose a danger to anything.

They also have one surprisingly easy weakness to exploit. That being ultra violet light. We don’t know how strong it may need to be, but sunlight was capable of killing them in seconds. Given that we could feasibly design lights that replicate this reaction (which is what a scientist develops successfully in the game) we’d have a weapon, or a means of warding them off to defend ourselves.

So yeah, even for a human all it would take is to barricade yourself in a place with water and one of their GMO crops and you’d be golden. Which is what the robots do, despite also being prey to the Zurks.

This was also my game of the year.
While I do have my criticism about it, it did not bore me out after 1hr like other games have done so lately.
I adore cats, but most cat games seem to miss the mark for me. Stray I’ve been following ever since it was first announced as HK back in late 2015, I’m so happy we finally got to play it.
And I can play it as my cat that was taken way too soon thanks to the wonderful modders.

Take care mate, take your time. Mental health is important and your adorable cute cats need you.
ps. if you can’t adopt a cat, remember you can volunteer at your local shelter. The help is greatly appreciated and important for the animals!

And all this still doesn’t invalidate the Fermi Paradox. If the Zurks take control AND become sentient, then it means that there is STILL something intelligent here even if humans don’t exist anymore. something that would want to expand, grow its numbers and colonize space.
