uh oh… he said spaz… here comes the lizzo apology
Everyone knows why this game has such a variety of activities. A vtuber doing endless inventory puzzles isn’t much fun to watch.
I wouldn’t say it’s unrealistic for cats to react accordingly to things happening or even being spoken to. Hell, I’ve seen a video with a cat being taught how to loosely communicate with its owner using a series of buttons that speak different words. That and a bit of suspension of disbelief made this game a new personal favorite of mine. I had fun with it.
It is at this point that we remember that yahtzee owns a dog. And I say that with all the disdain I can muster.
He has cat game with cat ears 😍
I am very surprised you were remembered blinx.
I still can’t tell if Yahtzee actually liked the game or not.
For my two cents, robots aping human behavior while not understanding it was my assumption. The robots haven’t seen a cat before, so why would they think it was less sentient than them? I’m reminded of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, where everyone around Charlie is asking ‘whats the point’ and Charlie says ‘Candy doesn’t have to have a point, that’s what makes it candy’. This game is candy. Everyone searching for the Dark Souls mechanics in this game are missing the point- That there isn’t one. You’re just supposed to enjoy it.
Spoiler warning I guess.
I don’t know if why, but the ending made me tear up a bit.
It also convinced me about something I liked, even though a lot of people complaint about. The cat is not the protagonist.
B12 is the protagonist. He has a story, he has a quest, he has motivation other than “get back home”. The cat is just the player character that got attached to its robot companion on its way back home.
The cat doesn’t care about the politics of a big wall or how the police wants to keep everyone locked in. It doesn’t care about the humans that in their hubris wiped themselves out before having a chance to open the gates.
The game ends with the cat curling and purring next to his dead robot friend. In the background a world that’s been dead for thousands of years rises from its ashes in the most unremarkable way possible.
I might not know why, but I loved it.
Blinx was not the first humanoid cat game by a AAA studio, Captain Claw was released by Monolith 5 years earlier in 1997. (sit down weebs yes I know about Doraemon and his games)
Do Endless Space 2
Actually, there are other games you can play as a cat. There’s “The Purring Quest” for one.
Are you telling me the cat does not reunite with it’s siblings?
0/10
Yahtzee! you don’t rub a cat’s belly damnit! not if you want to keep your hand anyways or you’ve thoroughly indoctrinated the cat over a decade and it finally trusts you enough
There was technically a game where one plays as a cat before: Alley Cat. A platformer which was very big when it came out in ’83-’84. I believe there was even a remake half a decade ago.
(Yes, a game which came out 4 decades ago is ancient in video game terms. C’est la vie.)
Confirmed – Yahtzee wants a Warrior Cats RPG in the style it Stray
Thanks so much for explaining exactly why the concept for the game makes no sense. By making the main character an actual cat you have now relinquished the ability to even craft a motivation for the protagonist to engage with the main plot of the game.
I applaud the game for letting us control a different type of animal (other than a human or human like animal) but it then makes no sense why the cat would do any of the deeds it does in the game.
Dogs had Dog’s Life in 2003.
Oh yeah, Blinx was a thing. I never played it. OH, SHIT O__O! Please don’t be a fucking walking Sim 一__一🤞. NO BAD KITTY! 3:53 Maybe they never seen a cat before.
2:29-2:35 Wow…I didn’t know I needed that game, BUT NOW I DO. Can we sneak things from one house to another? I want Untitled Goose Game, but with the navigation and vertical climbing ability cats can do (as well as the safe falling)
I want to get bonus points for hitting specific family members they were close to
The Worst part of the game was the Ending that DIDN’T have you reunite with your Cat Family!
