I think the crux of the whole damn game is the fact that the robots don’t KNOW what a cat is. They think the protag is some kind of space alien or something.

The drone wasn’t the sentient one. Cats are sentient too. The drone was sapient. Stop using sentient to mean sapient. Sentient = had and responds to senses. Sapient = has intelligence and self-awareness. That’s why humans are called homo sapiens. Same root as sapience.

Near 40 years ago Ko Neko Monogatari Adventures of Chatran was released for the Famicom.

Adventures of Chatran was a movie known in the west as “Milo and Otis”. Aside from having a basic internal monologue Chatran/Milo is a completely non-anthropomorphic cat.

So… I guess that’s one.

It would’ve been a more cat-accurate game if it was an open world where you Magoo around aimlessly effecting the machinations and plot around without ever realizing it, then puke in someone’s shoes

Yes…seeing a non-anthropomophized cat as a protagonist in a video game strikes me as…unlikley to be compelling.
